چکیده

Abstract To construct the Mesozoic apparent polar wander path (APWP) for inner arc of southwestern Japanese islands (referred to as southwest Japan) and compare it that East Asia, a 110 Ma paleomagnetic pole Japan was determined. Mudstone sandstone samples were collected from 16 sites analysis in Lower Cretaceous Inakura Formation area central part Japan. A high-temperature magnetization component, with unblocking temperatures 670–695 °C, isolated 12 red mudstone. Of these, 11 revealed primary remanent during Early Cretaceous. The directions combined previously reported ones provide new mean direction ( D = 79.7°, I 47.4°, α 95 6.5°, N 17), corresponding is representative (24.6° N, 203.1° E, 6.8°). pole, together Late Cenozoic poles, constitute APWP illustrates standstill position 110–70 Ma, suggesting tectonic quiescence this region. This followed by two large tracks Cenozoic. Late cretaceous true polar wander: not so fast.

Using recalculated paleopoles from seamount anomaly modeling (SAM), Sager and Koppers (1) proposed an episode of rapid Late Cretaceous true polar wander (TPW). A critical review of the data used, however, suggests that Sager and Koppers have underestimated the effects that errors and data selection have on inferences of TPW and that they may not have adequately taken into account alternative ex...

An Improved ISM Equation of State for Polar Fluids

We developed an equation of state (EOS) by Ihm, Song, and Mason (ISM) for polar fluids. The model consists of four parameters, namely, the second virial coefficient, an effective van der Waals co-volume, a scaling factor, and the reduced dipole moment. The second virial coefficient is calculated from a correlation that uses the heat of vaporization, and the liquid density at the normal boiling ...

True polar wander and supercontinents

I present a general model for true polar wander (TPW), in the context of supercontinents and simple modes of mantle convection. Old, mantle-stationary supercontinents shield their underlying mesosphere from the cooling effects of subduction, and an axis of mantle upwelling is established that is complementary to the downwelling girdle of subduction zones encircling the old supercontinent. The u...

Paleomagnetism of the lower two unconformity-bounded sequences of the Waterberg Group, South Africa: Towards a better-defined apparent polar wander path for the Paleoproterozoic Kaapvaal Craton

Paleomagnetic data from more than 250 samples of the lower part of the Waterberg Group (Nylstroom Subgroup) are reported in order to reevaluate the apparent polar wander path (APWP) of the Kaapvaal craton during the Paleoproterozoic Era. Our study broadly confirms the established APWP, but reveals some previously unidentified complexities in the time interval ~2.05 Ga to ~1.87 Ga. A primary rem...
